Agree what the exchange is for

IFC is buildingSMART’s open, vendor-neutral data standard for built assets. It can carry geometry, identity, attributes and relationships. Before export, our suggested brief records the receiving software, IFC version, coordinates, units, required objects and the information needed at this design stage. More geometry is not automatically more useful information.

Check the exported file

Open the exported IFC in the intended receiving application. Check location, scale, story assignment, element identifiers and the agreed properties. buildingSMART’s validation service checks STEP syntax, the IFC schema and normative rules; it does not check project-specific requirements or provide a geometric coordination review. Passing those checks therefore does not demonstrate that the facade fits.

Record interfaces and decisions

Our coordination checklist covers slab edges, anchors, movement allowances, openings, seal continuity and service access. Assign each issue an owner, status and due date, then exchange a revised model and confirm closure. The downloadable ALUCORE IFC is an educational schematic with example dimensions; it contains no approved fabrication detail, certified product data or installation instructions.
